Hello Elementor WordPress theme free download and setup guide cover, MIVAQ

Hello Elementor is the theme that surprises people the most when they activate it: you get a nearly blank page with a plain header and almost no options. That is not a mistake. Hello is designed as an empty canvas so that Elementor, not the theme, controls your design. If you are looking for the Hello Elementor WordPress theme free download, this guide explains where to get it safely, how to install it, and how to set it up so the “blank” theme becomes a polished, fast website.

This article is part of our complete guide: How to Build a WordPress Website for Your Business (2026 Guide).

Hello Elementor is 100% free and legal to download from WordPress.org. It is made by the Elementor team, and there is no paid version of the theme itself. The paid product in this ecosystem is the Elementor Pro plugin, which is optional.

At MIVAQ, a large share of the Elementor sites we build and maintain run on Hello. Below we share how we set it up and the questions clients ask us most.

What is the Hello Elementor WordPress theme?

Hello Elementor is a lightweight, minimalist classic theme built specifically to work with the Elementor site builder. Its official description calls it a solid foundation for building unique designs with Elementor’s drag-and-drop editor. The theme provides only the basics: proper WordPress templates, minimal styling, accessibility support and compatibility with Elementor’s Theme Builder. Everything visual, from the header to the blog layout, is meant to come from Elementor.

Key features of Hello Elementor

  • Minimal footprint: very little CSS and JavaScript, leaving Elementor to load only what your design needs.
  • Built by the Elementor team: updated alongside Elementor, so compatibility issues are rare.
  • Theme Builder ready: Elementor Pro headers, footers, single and archive templates replace the theme’s defaults cleanly.
  • Header and footer settings: recent versions let you style a simple header and footer through Elementor’s Site Settings without Pro.
  • Theme settings page: toggles to disable the page title, skip link, default header and footer, or theme stylesheets.
  • Accessibility ready: includes skip links and accessible markup.
  • Translation and RTL ready for multilingual sites.
  • Works with Elementor kits: import full website kits and templates from Elementor’s library.

A true blank canvas

Many multipurpose themes add their own buttons, headings and spacing styles, which then fight with Elementor’s settings. Hello adds almost nothing, so what you design in Elementor is what visitors see. This avoids the frustrating “why is my heading a different size?” problem.

Perfect partner for Elementor Pro Theme Builder

If you own Elementor Pro, the Theme Builder lets you design the header, footer, single post template, archive pages, 404 page and WooCommerce product pages. Hello steps aside completely for these templates, making it the most common base for full Elementor Pro builds.

Global styles live in Elementor

Colours, fonts, buttons and form fields are set in Elementor’s Site Settings. That means one place to manage your brand, and the theme simply follows.

Is Hello Elementor completely free?

Yes. There is no Hello Elementor Pro theme. The theme is free and GPL-licensed, with every feature available to everyone. What some people confuse with a Pro version is Elementor Pro, a separate plugin that adds the Theme Builder, popups, form widget, WooCommerce builder, motion effects and many more widgets. Elementor’s pricing and plans change, so check Elementor’s site for current Pro pricing.

Can you build a good site with Hello and only free Elementor? Yes, for simple sites. Use the Site Settings header and footer options or a lightweight header/footer plugin, design pages with free widgets, and keep the blog on default templates. For complete control over every template, Elementor Pro is the usual next step.

Who should use Hello Elementor?

  • Elementor Pro owners who design headers, footers and templates in the Theme Builder.
  • Designers recreating a custom mock-up pixel by pixel in Elementor.
  • Agencies that standardise on Elementor for all client sites.
  • Landing pages and portfolios where every section is custom designed.
  • Sites importing Elementor website kits that expect a blank base theme.

Who should avoid Hello? Anyone who does not use Elementor. Without it, Hello looks bare and offers almost no settings. Bloggers who want ready-made archive layouts and sidebars without Elementor Pro will be happier with Astra, Kadence or GeneratePress.

Hello Elementor WordPress theme free download (official and safe)

Download Hello only from the official directory:

Be especially careful with “Elementor Pro nulled” downloads, which are among the most widely pirated WordPress files and a frequent source of hacked sites. They can include backdoors, hidden admin accounts and spam injectors, and they cannot receive updates. If you used one and your site is acting strangely, see our WordPress malware removal guide. MIVAQ does not distribute theme or plugin files; the free theme always comes from WordPress.org.

How to install Hello Elementor in WordPress (step by step)

Method 1: from the dashboard

  1. Go to Appearance › Themes › Add New Theme.
  2. Search for “Hello Elementor”.
  3. Click Install, then Activate.
  4. Install the free Elementor plugin from Plugins › Add New Plugin if it is not already active.

Method 2: upload the ZIP

  1. Download hello-elementor.zip from the link above.
  2. Go to Appearance › Themes › Add New Theme › Upload Theme.
  3. Select the file, click Install Now, then Activate.

Child theme tip: Elementor publishes an official Hello child theme on GitHub. Use it whenever you add custom PHP or CSS files, so Hello updates never overwrite your code.

How to set up Hello Elementor after installation

With Hello, setup happens mostly inside Elementor rather than the WordPress Customizer:

  1. Install Elementor (and Elementor Pro if you have a licence).
  2. Set Site Settings. Open any page in Elementor, go to Site Settings and define Global Colors and Global Fonts first, then typography for headings and body, button styles and form fields.
  3. Configure the theme settings page. Under Appearance › Hello (or the Hello settings screen) decide whether to keep the default header and footer and page titles.
  4. Header and footer. With free Elementor, style Hello’s header and footer in Site Settings › Header & Footer. With Pro, build them in Templates › Theme Builder and set display conditions to the entire site.
  5. Import a kit (optional). Use Elementor’s kit library to import a full website kit, then replace content.
  6. Build pages. Create Home, About, Services and Contact with Elementor, using containers and global styles.
  7. Blog templates. With Pro, design single post and archive templates; without Pro, Hello’s simple defaults will display posts.
  8. Homepage and menus. Set the homepage in Settings › Reading and assign menus used by your header.

How we structure a Hello site

Our standard approach is “globals first, pages second”. Before any page is designed, we define six to eight global colours (primary, secondary, text, light background, dark background and accent) and three to four global font styles. Every widget then uses those globals rather than custom values. We build a single header and footer template, a page template for content pages and a post template, and then create pages from saved sections. The result is a site where the client can change the brand colour once and everything updates, and where new pages are assembled from proven blocks instead of designed from scratch. This discipline is what keeps Elementor sites on Hello fast and maintainable.

Hello Elementor speed and SEO checklist

  • Use Elementor’s container layout instead of old sections and inner sections for lighter markup.
  • Enable Elementor’s performance features (such as optimised asset loading) and test after each change.
  • Limit Google Fonts or host fonts locally; Elementor can load many font files if left unchecked.
  • Add page caching and image optimisation using our LiteSpeed speed guide.
  • Use a proper SEO plugin; see our Rank Math vs Yoast comparison. Hello leaves SEO entirely to your plugin.
  • Use one H1 per page in Elementor and logical H2s and H3s; our title tag SEO guide explains titles as well.
  • Back up before Elementor and theme updates, following our backup strategy.

Common mistakes when setting up Hello Elementor

  • Thinking the theme is broken. A plain page after activation is normal; Hello expects Elementor to do the design.
  • Skipping global colours and fonts. Styling each widget manually makes the site slow to edit and inconsistent.
  • Stacking addon packs. Installing three Elementor addon plugins for a few widgets adds weight and risk.
  • Using several H1 headings per page. Elementor makes it easy to set every heading as H1; avoid it.
  • Pirated Elementor Pro. The fastest way to a hacked site.

Hello Elementor vs similar free WordPress themes

Theme Best for Key difference
Hello Elementor Elementor Pro Theme Builder sites Blank canvas, no design opinions
Astra Elementor with free Elementor only Free header builder and blog layouts
GeneratePress Lean Elementor or block builds Customizer layout control plus speed
OceanWP Elementor with custom headers but no Pro Assign Elementor templates as header or footer

If you have Elementor Pro, Hello is almost always the right choice. If you only use free Elementor and want a proper header builder and blog layouts, Astra or OceanWP give you more out of the box. GeneratePress suits those who want a light theme with some Customizer control.

Hello Elementor pros and cons

What we like

  • Extremely light and conflict-free with Elementor.
  • Maintained by the Elementor team.
  • Ideal for Theme Builder and website kits.
  • Completely free, with no upsell inside the theme.

What to consider

  • Almost no options without Elementor.
  • Blog and archive templates look plain without Elementor Pro.
  • Your site design depends entirely on one plugin.

Our verdict: For anyone committed to Elementor, especially with Pro, Hello is the cleanest and most reliable foundation available. For everyone else, choose a theme with its own design options.
