You have built your Wix website, published it and searched for it on Google, and nothing comes up. Or perhaps your business name shows the site, but none of your services do. This is one of the most common problems we are asked to fix for Wix users. The causes range from a single setting to deeper content issues. Work through the list below in order; the early items are quick checks that solve a surprising number of cases.

This article is part of our complete guide: Wix and Squarespace SEO: The Complete Guide (2026).

First: is the site missing, or just not ranking?

Search Google for site:yourdomain.com. If you see results, the site is indexed and the problem is ranking, which is covered from reason 7 onwards. If you see nothing, Google has not indexed the site, and reasons 1 to 6 are the likely culprits. For accurate data, use Google Search Console’s URL Inspection tool, explained in our URL Inspection guide.

Reasons your Wix site is not indexed

1. The site is too new

New Wix sites usually appear within a few days to two weeks, but it can take longer. Give it time, but do not wait passively: complete steps 2 and 3. See how long Google takes to index.

2. Google Search Console is not connected

Use the Wix SEO Setup Checklist to connect your site to Google. This verifies ownership and submits your sitemap. Without it, Google has to discover your site on its own, which can be slow for a brand-new domain with no links.

3. The site is not published or the domain is not connected

Check that you clicked Publish after your latest changes and that your custom domain is properly connected. If Google indexed the free wixsite.com address first, connect the domain and resubmit the sitemap on the new property.

4. Pages are hidden from search engines

Each Wix page has a setting called “Let search engines index this page”. If it is off, the page gets a noindex tag. Check it in every page’s SEO settings, and check the SEO Settings panel for page-type rules that might hide whole sections, such as blog posts or product pages. Our guide to the noindex tag explains the effect.

5. The site or pages are password protected or members-only

Google cannot index password-protected or members-only pages. Make sure public pages are actually public.

6. The robots.txt file was edited

Wix lets you edit robots.txt. If someone added a Disallow rule, Google may be blocked. Reset it to the default if you are unsure. See Blocked by robots.txt.

Reasons your Wix site is indexed but not ranking

7. Pages have default or vague titles

Titles like “Home”, “Services” or “About | My Site” tell Google nothing. Every page needs a unique SEO title with its main keyword and location. See how to write title tags.

8. Pages have too little text

Many Wix templates rely on large images and a few words. Google ranks pages it can understand. Service pages typically need several hundred words of genuinely useful information: what you do, who it is for, how it works, prices or price guidance, areas covered and FAQs.

9. Text is inside images

Headings and descriptions designed as images cannot be read as text by Google. Replace them with real text elements and use alt text on the images.

10. You are targeting keywords that are too competitive

A new site will not rank for “plumber” or “photographer”. Target specific phrases with location and service detail, such as “emergency boiler repair Stockport”. See our guide to keyword research.

11. There is no local signal

For local services, Google relies heavily on your Google Business Profile, reviews and consistent business details. Make sure your name, address and phone number match everywhere, and add your service areas to the website. Our Wix local SEO guide goes deeper.

12. Nobody links to your site

Links from relevant directories, suppliers, partners, local news and associations tell Google your site is trustworthy. A brand-new site with zero links will struggle in competitive searches no matter how good the settings are.

Using Wix’s own tools to diagnose the problem

Wix includes a Site Inspection tool in the SEO area of the dashboard. Once Search Console is connected, it shows which of your pages Google has indexed and flags issues for individual pages, without you needing to open Search Console itself. It is a convenient first stop. For deeper detail, such as which canonical Google selected or the exact reason a page was excluded, use Search Console’s URL Inspection and Page indexing report; our Page indexing report guide explains each status. Between the two tools, you can usually pinpoint the problem within minutes rather than guessing.

A quick action plan

  1. Confirm the site is published on your own domain.
  2. Connect Google Search Console through the Wix SEO setup checklist.
  3. Check every page’s “Let search engines index this page” setting.
  4. Inspect your homepage in Search Console and request indexing.
  5. Rewrite page titles and descriptions with specific keywords.
  6. Add real text to thin pages, with headings and FAQs.
  7. Set up and verify your Google Business Profile.
  8. Get listed in a handful of relevant directories.
  9. Publish helpful blog posts that answer customer questions and link to services. See Wix blog SEO.
  10. Review Search Console monthly.

Is Wix itself the problem?

Usually not. Wix used to have a poor SEO reputation, but today it produces clean, crawlable sites with sitemaps, canonicals and mobile support built in. The issues above are about setup and content, and they happen on WordPress and Squarespace too. We compare platforms honestly in Wix vs WordPress for SEO.

You need a Premium plan to connect your own domain, which is strongly recommended for SEO and trust.

Can I force Google to index my Wix site?

You cannot force it, but connecting Search Console, submitting a sitemap and requesting indexing for key pages speeds it up.

Does Wix SEO Wiz still exist?

It has been replaced by the SEO Setup Checklist, which does the same job with an updated interface.
